South Florida's Second Week of Protests "Peaceful and Organized"

Over the weekend, thousands of people took to the streets of South Florida and marched across part of the city following a week of demonstrations calling for justice in the death of George Floyd.

On Saturday, thousands of demonstrators marched through South Florida in a show of solidarity in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Doral, Sweetwater, and Miramar.

On Sunday, larger crowds gathered on the streets of Homestead, Wynwood and Miami Lakes for the ninth day of protests.

In Hollywood, scores of police officers also joined the protests.

Unlike last week protests, these demonstrations were peaceful and organized, and saw residents adhering to the curfew orders that have been implemented.

In a video message, Ford Lauderdale Police Chief Rick Maglione thanked the peaceful demonstrators saying: “They came with a message. Their message was heard and it was not overshadowed nor overtaken by folks with the intent of diluting that message.”
