Small aircraft plummets in Everglades in southwest Broward

A small aircraft plummeted into the marshy terrain of the Florida Everglades, situated in the far southwestern part of Broward County on Tuesday morning.

From Okeechobee to Everglades

Reports are that the plane was embarking on its journey from the Okeechobee region when it crashed roughly 7 miles west of the juncture of U.S. 27 and the boundaries of Miramar city.

A man was spotted perched atop the wing of the downed Cessna Skyhawk awaiting rescue.

Reports are that he suffered a leg injury. 

Response and rescue

The Miami-Dade Fire Rescue dispatched a helicopter to take the pilot from the water.

It is reported that the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the crash.
