It was billed as ‘Reggae Meets Soul,’  and for the full house at the Coral Springs Center for the Performing Arts last Sunday, it was a satisfying combo.

From the lovers’ rock of Mical Rustle to the classic harmonies of The Drifters, patrons rocked throughout the evening. Leroy Sibbles, a last-minute replacement for Ernie Smith, had the hall jumping with a typical up-tempo set. Fans rocked to the rocksteady gems he recorded with The Heptones 50 years ago.

Sibbles was in his element on ‘Party Time,’ ‘Sweet Talking,’ ‘Why Can't I Leave This Life Alone,’ ‘Only Sixteen,’  and the inspirational, ‘Book of Rules.’

Sibbles' raucous performance set the pace for The Drifters, one of the great vintage groups of popular music. They sang, danced and joked their way into the audience's hearts. Many in the venue grew up on classic songs like ‘On Broadway,’ ‘Up On The Roof,’ ‘On The Boardwalk,’ and ‘Stand By Me,’  which had them swaying and singing along.

Kashief Lindo, Annette Brissett and The Melodians also turned in solid performances, ensuring the patrons who braved the rain, got their money's worth.
