Shaw leads the City attack
For much of the contest, Shaw was the focal point of City’s attacking threat, repeatedly troubling the PSG defense as the hosts sought to turn their territorial advantage into goals.
The Reggae Girlz forward went close with a header that drifted wide, sent a half-volley narrowly off target and later forced an impressive save from PSG goalkeeper Oliwia Szperkowska.
City controlled significant periods of the match, enjoying the greater share of possession and creating the more promising opportunities. However, PSG remained organized at the back and repeatedly frustrated the home side’s attempts to find a breakthrough.
Penalty breakthrough, immediate response
Shaw finally appeared to settle the contest five minutes from regulation time. After driving into the PSG penalty area, she won a spot kick and confidently converted from 12 yards to put City ahead.
But the advantage was short-lived. Just three minutes later, Gilbert latched onto a through ball and slipped her finish beyond Yamashita, abruptly changing the mood inside the Joie Stadium.
City were left to reflect on another missed opportunity to secure their first win of the campaign, while Shaw's late strike was reduced to a consolation in a match her team had largely controlled.
The Jamaican's goal nevertheless continued her strong club form, even as City's search for a Champions League victory goes on.
