Shamar Joseph awarded CWI retainer contract after heroic Test debut

Cricket West Indies (CWI) has awarded Shamar Joseph an international retainer contract following his impressive debut during the recent Test series against Australia.

Joseph, a 24-year-old fast bowler from Guyana, made a significant impact in his first two Test matches, earning him the Player-of-the-Series award. In the first Test at Adelaide, he took five wickets on his debut, and in the second Test at Brisbane, he played a crucial role in West Indies' historic eight-run victory with a remarkable spell, taking seven wickets for 68 runs.

Enoch Lewis, CWI director and chairman of its cricket development and performance committee, praised Joseph's talent and dedication, stating, "Shamar has not just been rewarded with a retainer contract; he has earned it."

Joseph is among the 15 players awarded retainer contracts by CWI. The list includes Test captain Kraigg Brathwaite, his deputy Alzarri Joseph, Kemar Roach, Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Alick Athanaze, Joshua Da Silva, Gudakesh Motie, and the injured Jayden Seales. The remaining players are part of the white-ball squads led by captains Shai Hope and Rovman Powell.

Additionally, former West Indies Under-19 pacer Chemar Holder has been awarded a franchise contract as he continues his recovery from a shoulder injury.

CWI is focused on securing the best fast-bowling talent and supporting the development of promising players like Shamar Joseph and Chemar Holder as they aim to strengthen West Indies' cricket team.
