Falcons teeter before Khan takes over
The chase did not initially suggest the dramatic finish that followed.
The Falcons managed only 33 runs during the Power Play and lost Rahkeem Cornwall, leaving the home side needing to rebuild.
Amir Jangoo and Moeen Ali offered signs of recovery before both departed after attempting to accelerate the scoring.
Their contributions, however, proved important in setting the stage for the late assault.
With the required rate still manageable but the pressure mounting, Khan and Perera changed the entire contest.
The pair unleashed an unbeaten 76-run partnership, attacking the Knight Riders’ bowlers and steadily dismantling what had appeared to be a difficult chase.
Edward’s costly over breaks TKR’s resistance
The decisive passage arrived in the 18th over.
Nathan Edward, the 21-year-old paceman, endured a disastrous outing when he conceded 27 runs in the over, including two waist-high no-balls.
The punishment became so severe that captain Kieron Pollard was forced to bowl the final delivery himself.
By the time the over ended, the equation had been reduced to only 11 runs from 12 balls.
Khan needed little more encouragement.
The Pakistani star finished the contest in spectacular fashion, requiring just three deliveries to complete the victory.
His unbeaten 52 included the kind of clean, aggressive hitting that had turned the match completely on its head.
Perera remained unbeaten on 34 as the Falcons crossed the finish line with nine balls to spare.
Knight Riders threaten 200 before Falcons fight back
Earlier, Trinbago appeared destined for a much larger total.
Colin Munro and Nicholas Pooran tore into the Falcons during the opening six overs, driving the Knight Riders to 73 for one by the end of the Power Play.
Munro's powerful leg-side hitting repeatedly pierced the field, while Pooran's switch-hitting unsettled the bowling attack and kept the home crowd unusually quiet.
For a period, a total around 200 appeared well within reach.
Then the Falcons changed the game.
Shadab's introduction, alongside the contribution of Tobagonian all-rounder Joshua James, disrupted the Knight Riders' momentum.
James claimed two wickets for 23 runs, removing Pooran and Pollard, while the Falcons' spinners tightened the scoring through the middle overs.
The Knight Riders, who had looked capable of producing a mammoth total, instead finished on 165 for six.
Falcons surge while champions stumble
The result gives the Falcons consecutive victories and moves them to the top of the CPL standings.
It also preserves their unbeaten home record at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium and establishes them as an increasingly serious force in the competition.
For the defending champions, the situation is markedly different.
TKR have now lost consecutive matches, leaving their title defense under immediate pressure.
In contrast, the Falcons are gathering momentum, and with Khan producing performances of this magnitude, their rise to the top has come with a very loud warning to the rest of the league.
