Beginning today, seniors and community healthcare providers in Broward County can pre-register to receive the COVID-19 vaccine at Broward Health.

The community healthcare providers are defined as dentists, psychologists, physical therapists, social workers, nurses, medical assistants, mental health counselors, podiatrists, pharmacists, techs in outpatient surgery centers, and anyone who interacts with patients.

Seniors are people over the age of 65-years-old.

Dr. Aldo Calvo, medical director of ambulatory services at Broward Health, said they are starting the campaign with a supply of the COVID-19 vaccine developed by Moderna and the National Institutes of Health.

The vaccination will not be done at the Fort Lauderdale hospital, but at an undisclosed location. Health officials in the county say they want to avoid scores of people showing up to the hospital. Only after an appointment has been set, will the location be revealed to the person.

Broward Health plans on vaccinating 20 people each hour, totaling around 100 people a day. Those who meet the age requirements do not have to live in Broward County.

To make an appointment, call Broward Health’s Nurse Connect line at 954-759-7500.

Elsewhere in the county, Holy Cross Health in Fort Lauderdale is administering the vaccine to patients 75 years of age and older while the Cleveland Clinic in Weston has also begun taking vaccination appointments.
