Scorpions’ batting woes continue as Red Force dominates

Once again, the Jamaica Scorpions faced a challenging day as their batting line-up faltered against the spin bowling of the Trinidad & Tobago Red Force on the second day of their West Indies Championship match at Sabina Park on Thursday.

With the visitors piling up 432 all out in their first innings, the Scorpions faced an uphill task, ending the day on 159 for nine, still trailing by 273 runs.

Off-spinner Bryan Charles was the standout performer for the Red Force, claiming six wickets as the Scorpions' batting line-up struggled against his fast-spinning deliveries. Only Kirk McKenzie managed to put up significant resistance, scoring 57 runs.

McKenzie's valiant effort was overshadowed by Charles' dominance, who accounted for key wickets including opener Javaughn Buchanan and McKenzie himself.

A spirited knock of 33 runs

Lower-order batter Jeavor Royal contributed with a spirited knock of 33 runs, but it wasn't enough to lift the Scorpions out of trouble.

Reflecting on his performance, Charles credited the spinning pitch for his success and emphasized his strategy of bowling with a bit more pace than the Jamaican spinners.

In the first innings, the Red Force added 124 runs to their overnight total, with Terrance Hinds and Khary Pierre making valuable contributions. Hinds top-scored with 79 runs, supported by Pierre's 43.

As the Scorpions face an uphill battle, they will need a strong batting performance on the third day to stay in contention in the match.
