Reflecting on the album, Virgo shared, "I kept some important questions in mind while working on this album. Who am I to my fans? To those close to me? To myself? With this project, I present my full, authentic self. This is who I am." Virgo collaborates with notable artists throughout the album, including dancehall phenom Masicka on the opener "Been There Before" and Nigerian reggae-fusionist Patoranking on the heartfelt tribute to single mothers titled "I Believe." The album concludes with dynamic features from Jamaican talents Jesse Royal on "Bridges" and Capleton on "You Must Pay." "The Gentle Man" boasts a stellar lineup of producers, including Donovan ‘Don Corleon’ Bennett, Oliver ‘Cadenza’ Rodigan, and Phillip ‘Winta’ James, among others. These collaborations result in a rich and diverse sonic tapestry that seamlessly blends roots reggae, lover's rock, Afrobeats, and more. Leading up to the album release, Virgo has treated fans to four singles: "Good Woman," "Driver," "Switch You On," and the latest release, "Been There Before."
