Reggae Marathon 2024 introduces new 5K race alongside 10K and Half marathon

The highly anticipated Reggae Marathon, a premier long-distance road race in Jamaica, is set to take place on Sunday, December 8, 2024, in Negril.

Organizers have introduced an exciting addition to the event – a new 5K race that will run alongside the traditional 10K and half marathon races.

Alfred 'Frano' Francis, the race director, expressed his enthusiasm for the 5K addition, stating that it has ignited excitement among corporate teams and individuals. This inclusive move allows participants to progressively take on the challenges of the 10K and half marathon, enhancing the event's accessibility.

Accessible route

The 5K route commences at Long Bay Beach Park, passes through Negril's aerodrome, and concludes at the same beachside finish line as the other races. The course is predominantly flat and IAAF-certified, ensuring a top-tier race experience for all participants.

In its 24th year, Reggae Marathon is known for its well-organized international event that combines running with the vibrant world of Jamaican music, including reggae, calypso, and Afrobeats. The event features live reggae acts, with past headliners like Grammy winner Kabaka Pyramid.

Participants can look forward to finisher medals, official Reggae Marathon T-shirts, and a total prize pool exceeding US$10,000. Prestigious Bob Marley and Rita Marley trophies await the male and female champions of the Reggae Half Marathon, with special prize categories for high-school boys and girls in the 10K, as well as teams in the 5K, 10K, and half marathon.

Charitable endeavors

Reggae Marathon continues its commitment to charitable causes by partnering with the Heart Foundation of Jamaica and actively promoting fundraising for other charitable endeavors. The event also offers volunteer opportunities for young individuals from diverse Jamaican communities.

For those unable to attend in person, virtual race options are available, allowing runners and walkers worldwide to participate in the event.

Reggae Marathon has garnered international acclaim, including being voted 'International Race of the Year' by UK Men's Running magazine and receiving a "highly commended" accolade in the Women's Running International Race of the Year category. The event promises a unique blend of running, music, and the vibrant Jamaican culture.
