Jamaica’s Reggae Girlz defeated Nigeria 1-0 in the first two friendly internationals at the BBVA Stadium in Houston, Texas on Thursday evening.

An early second-half goal from World Cup Veteran, Deneisha Blackwood gave Jamaicans the win. Blackwood made amends for an early miss when she scooped a penalty to the Nigerian goalkeeper, Tochukwu Oluehi.

Blackwood, who also plays for the Houston Dash of the National Women’s Soccer League has eight international goals for Jamaica.

The Reggae Girlz, who missed several chances, were put under pressure late in the game, but they held on for their first win over an African team.

The Reggae Girlz became the first Caribbean team to play in the Women's World Cup when they made the field in France in 2019.

The Summer Series continues Sunday, with Jamaica facing the United States at the BBVA Stadium in Houston, Texas.
