Reggae Girlz prepared for friendly encounters in Costa Rica

Jamaica's Under-20 Reggae Girlz are now in Costa Rica ahead of the first of two friendly encounters against that Central American nation, as they continue their build-up to the CONCACAF Women's Championship later this month.

According to assistant coach Xavier Gilbert, the team arrived in Costa Rica in high spirits following what he deemed an apt four-day camp in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

“Everything that has happened thus far is a part of our objective to ensure that we have a successful campaign in Trinidad and Tobago to qualify for the World Cup and we welcome that,” Gilbert was quoted as saying.

The two games scheduled for Wednesday and Friday are expected to add impetus to the young Reggae Girlz preparation for a World Cup bid in the CONCACAF Women's Under-20 Championships in Trinidad and Tobago January 18-28.

The team will contest Group B, alongside defending champions United States, Mexico and another Central American team in Nicaragua. Trinidad and Tobago, Costa Rica, Haiti and Canada will contest the other group.

Jamaica will also open against the Mexicans on January 19 before squaring off against United States on January 21 and close against Nicaragua on January 23.
