Reggae Girlz alter plans as protests disrupt preparations for CONCACAF Women’s Gold Cup qualifiers

Members of Jamaica's Senior Women’s National Team delegation have been gathering in Panama, with some technical and management staff already present, and others departing from the Norman Manley International Airport on Monday afternoon.

Additionally, two players, Tyiesha Nelson and Shanghaie Nelson, also flew from NMIA on Monday.

However, the planned game between Jamaica and Panama had to undergo a change in venue due to ongoing demonstrations in the city where it was originally scheduled. The delegation has been relocated to a city located 45 minutes outside of Panama City.

Challenging two and a half-hour drive to switch hotels

Advanced members who arrived on Sunday faced a challenging two and a half-hour drive to switch hotels on Monday night as they were unable to travel during the day due to the ongoing protests.

Meanwhile, those departing from Jamaica on Monday afternoon were redirected to a different hotel at Playa Bonita, where they will join the advanced group. A change in match venue has also been implemented.

The game against the host is scheduled for Wednesday and the team is expected to return to Jamaica on Thursday in preparation for Sunday’s game against Guatemala in the CONCACAF Women’s Gold Cup qualifiers. The return legs of these qualifiers are scheduled for the end of November, with the victorious team earning a spot in next year's Gold Cup tournament in the United States of America.
