The Broward Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit says the suspect in the murder of a Pompano Beach man has been arrested.

According to reports on Wednesday, Aug. 21, Lawan Jones Jr. was taken into custody on a warrant for the murder of his girlfriend’s father, Keith Bryan Poole.

At approximately 4:44 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 19, BSO deputies and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue responded to a shooting call near the 1500 block of Northeast 28th Street. On scene, emergency crews located the victim, Poole, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics transported Poole to Broward Health North, where he was later pronounced deceased.

According to witnesses, the shooting began after Poole became aware of social media posts made by Jones that he thought were inappropriate. At some point, witnesses said, Jones started arguing with Poole and shot him. Jones fled from the scene with his girlfriend, Jessie Poole.

After an extensive search, Jones turned himself in at the BSO West Park District Office and faces one charge of first-degree murder with a firearm. Following his arrest, he was transported to the Broward County Main Jail. Jessie Poole was also safely located.
