Pfizer vaccine arrives in Jamaica to bolster COVID-19 defense

Jamaican health authorities have announced the arrival of a shipment of Pfizer vaccines, offering a boost to the country’s vaccination campaign. 

The Ministry of Health and Wellness (MOHW) received 45,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine on December 2013, from the United States Government.

With the arrival of the Pfizer vaccine, Jamaica now has a valuable resource to further protect its citizens from the COVID-19 virus. 

These vaccines are set to serve a dual purpose, catering to those receiving their initial vaccinations and individuals requiring booster doses. 

Jamaicans are to get vaccinated at any of the 78 vaccination sites across Jamaica.

Whether seeking the initial dose or a booster shot, citizens are encouraged to visit their nearest vaccination site and take the necessary steps toward personal and community safety.

Fighting against COVID-19

MOHW emphasizes the importance of vaccination for the elderly, pregnant women, individuals with chronic medical conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, and chronic kidney failure, as well as healthcare and frontline workers. 

This recommendation extends to safeguarding against other respiratory viruses, such as the flu, which currently circulate alongside COVID-19.
