Spanish pressure finally breaks Austrian resistance

With the stands awash in red and an enthusiastic Los Angeles crowd, including Hollywood stars Penelope Cruz, Javier Bardem, and singer Rosalía, creating a festive atmosphere, Spain gradually tightened its grip on the match.

After patiently probing Austria's defense throughout the opening half, Spain thought it had found the breakthrough from a Lamine Yamal corner. Marc Cucurella bundled the ball into the net, but the effort was ruled out after Pau Cubarsí was judged to have impeded goalkeeper Alexander Schlager.

Schlager kept Austria alive moments later with a superb diving save to turn Oyarzabal's low effort around the post.

The breakthrough eventually arrived in the 36th minute.

Pedri switched play with a precise pass to Cucurella on the left wing, and the defender delivered a perfectly weighted cross that Oyarzabal calmly side-footed beyond Schlager to reward Spain's sustained dominance.

Missed chances keep margin narrow before halftime

Spain continued to create opportunities as Yamal repeatedly exposed Austria's defense down the right flank.

Alex Baena came within inches of doubling the lead when his free kick rattled the crossbar, and Yamal's close-range follow-up was denied by another sharp save from Schlager.

Austria's best opportunity of the half came against the run of play. Romano Schmid picked out an unmarked Stefan Posch arriving inside the area, but the defender's heavy first touch squandered the chance before he could even attempt a shot.

Porro extends the advantage

Austria tried to change the game's complexion after the break by introducing towering forwards Sasa Kalajdzic and Marko Arnautovic, immediately adopting a more direct approach.

Kalajdzic threatened with a header that sailed over the crossbar, but Spain quickly reasserted control.

In the 66th minute, Baena floated an inviting cross into the penalty area, where Pedro Porro rose above the defense to head home his first goal for Spain and effectively end any hopes of an Austrian comeback.

Oyarzabal caps complete performance

Austria's determined defending prevented the scoreline from becoming even more lopsided. David Alaba produced a crucial goal-line clearance to deny Yamal before the young star was substituted to preserve his energy for later rounds.

Spain then closed out the match with trademark composure, exchanging crisp passes that prompted chants of "Olé!" from the appreciative crowd as thoughts turned toward a far sterner challenge in Dallas.

The final flourish arrived in the 89th minute when Cucurella delivered another pinpoint cross into the penalty area. Oyarzabal, left completely unmarked, calmly finished for his second goal of the evening, sealing an emphatic victory that underlined Spain's championship credentials.

Although the final score was 3-0, Spain's superiority suggested the margin could easily have been greater after seeing one goal disallowed and another effort strike the woodwork in a commanding display from the European champions.
