Three athletes selected for Commonwealth Games
Saint Lucia will send a compact three-member athletics team to the Commonwealth Games, which will be staged in Glasgow, Scotland, from July 23 to August 2.
The delegation will feature Khailan Vitalis in the men's 110-meter hurdles, while Michael Joseph and Marvric Pamphile have been selected to contest the men's 400 meters.
Despite the small contingent, the trio will carry the nation's hopes at one of the sport's premier international competitions.
Larger delegation set for CAC Games
Saint Lucia's presence will be considerably larger at the Central American and Caribbean Games, scheduled for the Dominican Republic from July 24 to August 8.
A 26-member team has been selected to compete across seven sports as the island looks to make an impact against regional rivals.
The delegation will participate in netball, boxing, weightlifting, golf, table tennis, track and field, and sailing, providing Saint Lucia with opportunities to challenge for medals across a broad range of disciplines.
Focus shifts to new faces
Although Alfred's absence removes one of the Caribbean's brightest athletic stars from both competitions, the selections present an opportunity for other Saint Lucian athletes to step into the spotlight.
With emerging competitors now entrusted to represent the island on two major international stages, attention will turn to whether the nation's next generation can deliver strong performances in Glasgow and the Dominican Republic while its Olympic champion sits out this year's regional and Commonwealth campaigns.
