Dr. Kishore Shallow, President of Cricket West Indies (CWI), has announced an exciting initiative: a domestic T20 cricket league slated to commence in May 2025.

This league will play a crucial role in selecting the team that will represent the West Indies at the upcoming 2028 Los Angeles Olympics (LA28).

In a recent appearance on the WESN TV sports program hosted by Andre Baptiste, Shallow detailed the progress being made for this regional tournament. He stated, "We are in the process of establishing our own domestic T20 league." He highlighted that this competition aims to identify emerging talent while also providing a platform for experienced players. "This tournament will be instrumental in discovering new talent."

CWI is actively engaging with CPL

CWI is actively engaging with the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) to secure sponsorship for the tournament, with further discussions planned following recent meetings in Paraguay and upcoming talks in Turks and Caicos.

The league will comprise teams representing various territories across the Caribbean; however, Shallow clarified that not every island will have its own team. The exact number of teams and the format for the tournament will be determined during the next International Cricket Council (ICC) meeting. The victorious team will earn the honor of representing the West Indies at LA28.

Cricket will be featured in the Olympics for the first time since 1900, alongside five other sports—baseball, softball, flag football, squash, and lacrosse—that have recently been included in the LA28 Olympic program.
