Rise features eight works from the NDTC repertoire, combining modern dance, classical technique and traditional Afro-Caribbean folk forms.
The production explores themes of home, thanksgiving and cultural continuity through choreography, live music and vocal performances. The works reflect the company’s approach to blending traditional Jamaican and Caribbean forms with contemporary dance.
Founded in 1962, NDTC is one of the Caribbean’s longest-running dance companies. The company has performed internationally and is known for productions drawing on Jamaica’s cultural traditions and history.
The Miramar performance will be followed by a second South Florida engagement on Saturday, October 31, at 7 p.m. at the Dennis C. Moss Cultural Arts Center in South Miami-Dade County.
