Several individuals were detained for questioning early Thursday morning after a shooting was reported outside a UPS facility in Hialeah, police confirmed.

The incident unfolded around 3:20 a.m. at 6001 East Eighth Avenue, according to Hialeah police.

Responding officers found the victim, who had been shot at least once, hiding in the parking lot. Hialeah Fire Rescue transported the individual to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center for treatment. The victim’s condition has not yet been disclosed.

Shortly after arriving on the scene, officers detained multiple individuals who appeared to be trying to flee near East Eighth Avenue and 56th Street. Police have not confirmed how many people were detained or their potential involvement in the incident.

Authorities have not released any details regarding a motive or what may have led to the shooting.

A man at the scene told Local 10 that he received a call from the victim, a UPS employee, just before the shooting occurred.

“He told me to come here because somebody was trying to jump him. That’s when I came,” the man said.

He added that by the time he and another friend arrived at the facility, police were already on scene, and he was unable to speak with the victim.

“I was worried about my friend,” he said. “When I asked them what was going on, they wouldn’t tell me. I’m basically family, so I wanted to know what was going on.”

Another woman, who said she was at the facility to pick someone up, reported hearing gunshots before being stopped by police. Both she and her passenger were held briefly while the investigation continued but were later allowed to leave.

As of Thursday morning, police have not released the names of those detained or provided additional details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The investigation remains active.
