Mount Pleasant storm into CFU Club Shield final with dominant win over Robinhood

Mount Pleasant FA continued their impressive start to the season with another authoritative performance, defeating Suriname’s SV Robinhood 3-1 on Friday at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Trinidad and Tobago to earn a place in the 2026 Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Club Shield Final.

A composed penalty from Trayvone Reid, a well-crafted finish by Jahshaun Anglin, and a late strike from Demario Phillips proved more than enough for the Jamaican champions, who controlled large stretches of the semifinal before comfortably advancing to Sunday's championship match.

Jamaicans grow into the contest

Although the opening exchanges were measured, Mount Pleasant steadily imposed themselves as the game unfolded.

Their first warning came in the 12th minute when Haitian attacker Rafa Intervil found space but sent his effort wide, an early indication that the Jamaicans were beginning to dictate the tempo.

As confidence grew, Mount Pleasant tightened their grip in midfield while stretching Robinhood's defense through Intervil's attacking runs on the right and Johnson Juedy's persistent threat down the opposite flank.

Their dominance was finally rewarded just after the half-hour mark.

When Daniel Green was fouled inside the penalty area in the 32nd minute, Reid accepted the responsibility from the spot. The forward calmly rolled his penalty low into the left corner beyond goalkeeper Jonathan Fonkel to hand Mount Pleasant a deserved 1-0 lead.

Davis preserves the advantage

Robinhood responded with greater urgency after conceding, forcing several corner kicks as they searched for an equalizer before halftime.

Their closest opportunity arrived in the 40th minute when Ravello Zijler escaped his defender and appeared destined to score. However, goalkeeper Shaquan Davis produced an outstanding save at his near post, preserving Mount Pleasant's advantage heading into the break.

That stop proved to be one of the pivotal moments of the contest.

Second-half quality seals the result

Mount Pleasant wasted little time asserting themselves after the restart.

In the 57th minute, Reid turned provider, delivering a precise cross that Anglin met with a perfectly timed first-time finish to double the Jamaican club's advantage and leave Robinhood facing an uphill battle.

Seeking to revive his team's fortunes, Robinhood head coach Roberto Gödeken made a triple substitution in the 63rd minute, but the tactical adjustments failed to disrupt Mount Pleasant's control.

Instead, the Jamaicans delivered the decisive blow eight minutes from time.

Phillips spotted Fonkel off his line in the 82nd minute and expertly guided his effort inside the near post, extending the lead to 3-0 and effectively ending any hopes of a Surinamese comeback.

Robinhood managed a late consolation in the 90th minute when Naiem Helstone finished from close range at the back post after being picked out by Jenairo Ligeon.

The goal did little to alter the outcome, as Mount Pleasant confidently managed the closing moments before referee Vimarest Diaz sounded the final whistle, confirming a convincing 3-1 victory and sending the Jamaican champions into Sunday's 2026 CFU Club Shield Final.
