Brown punishes Club Sando on the counter
Club Sando began aggressively and should have taken the lead in the 10th minute, but a promising opportunity from just four yards out was directed wide of the near post.
Mount Pleasant responded almost immediately, turning defense into attack to seize the advantage.
Suelae McCalla delivered a perfectly weighted ball over the top for Brown, who accelerated away from two defenders before calmly slotting past the goalkeeper in the 11th minute.
The visitors threatened again six minutes later. Reid held up the ball intelligently to create an opening for Brown, but the goalscorer sent his effort over the crossbar from 12 yards.
Mount Pleasant then had an opportunity to establish a commanding position when a Club Sando defender handled inside the penalty area after Reid had beaten him on the dribble. However, goalkeeper Tershorne Ragoo denied Reid from the spot in the 35th minute, keeping the deficit at one.
Missed chances keep hosts alive
Despite Reid’s penalty failure, Mount Pleasant continued to threaten as the first half progressed.
Jalmaro Calvin headed over in the 41st minute, while Kimonie Bailey came agonizingly close three minutes later when his free kick crashed against the crossbar.
Club Sando remained competitive, but their attacking efforts were largely restricted to longer-range attempts that failed to seriously trouble Mount Pleasant goalkeeper Shaquan Davis.
The Jamaican club also created openings early in the second half, although Brown and Calvin were unable to hit the target with their respective efforts.
Those missed opportunities left Mount Pleasant vulnerable, and Club Sando eventually capitalized on a costly turnover.
David levels after defensive error
Club Sando drew level in the 56th minute after Jahshaun Anglin lost possession near the edge of the penalty area.
Jaron Pascall seized the opportunity and fired a shot that struck the post. David reacted quickest to the rebound, driving a low effort past Davis from inside the box to restore parity.
The equalizer set up a tense closing period, with both sides searching for a decisive breakthrough.
Club Sando nearly snatched victory five minutes from full time when Kyle Ming cleared Marc Wharfe’s goal-bound effort off the line, with Davis caught out of position.
Mount Pleasant immediately threatened at the other end. Ragoo spilled possession inside the penalty area, but Brown’s dangerous follow-up attempt was deflected over the crossbar.
The hosts came even closer to stealing the win when Shackiel Henry unleashed a powerful strike that crashed against the crossbar and bounced back into play.
Neither team could find the decisive goal, leaving the tie unresolved after an eventful first leg.
National Stadium set for decisive showdown
Mount Pleasant will now turn their attention to Tuesday’s return leg at the National Stadium, where they will look to convert their first-leg performance into a place in the Concacaf Caribbean Cup final.
The Jamaican side will have reason to regret the missed penalty and several squandered opportunities, but Brown’s early strike ensured they avoided defeat on the road and are slightly ahead on the away goals rule.
Club Sando, meanwhile, will travel to Jamaica knowing that David’s equalizer has kept their hopes alive, setting the stage for a decisive second encounter.
