ATLANTA, Georgia - South African contestant Zozibini Tunzi was crowned Miss Universe Sunday night at recently opened Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.

Tunzie, a petite black woman was a crowd favorite from she first appeared on stage among the top 20 finalists.

She excelled excelling through the swimsuit and evening gown rounds. She portrayed exceptional poise and grace during the evening gown round.

In the question and answer rounds she articulately expressed her self with clarity and intelligently.  The response to the questions asked of the three top finalists was particularly impressive. Asked why she think she should win the pageant she replied, “I grew up in a world where a woman who looks like me — with my kind of skin and my kind of hair — was never considered to be beautiful. I think it is time that that stops today. I want children to look at me and see my face and I want them to see their faces reflected in mine."

The two runners-up for the crown were Miss Mexico Sofia Aragon who placed third, and Miss Puerto Rico Madison Anderson.
