The music and legacy of Cuban salsa icon Celia Cruz will take center stage in Miramar this weekend as the Miramar Cultural Center ArtsPark hosts a concert marking what would have been the singer’s 100th birthday.
“Celia Vive! A Musical Tribute to Celia Cruz” will take place Saturday, Oct. 10, at 8 p.m., featuring Cuban singer and performer Lucrecia alongside the Celia Cruz All Stars Band.
The concert will serve as the finale of the Miramar Cultural Center’s Celia Cruz Centennial celebrations, with a visual tribute planned before the performance.
Guests will be able to view pieces from some of Cruz’s iconic costumes as well as a commemorative art exhibition presented by Roselle Gallery in collaboration with the Celia Cruz Foundation.
The exhibition features works by Cuban painter Esteban Machado Díaz and traces Cruz’s life and career, from her early years in Cuba to her rise in New York and her emergence as an international star.
Among the featured works is “Como una Diosa” (“Like a Goddess”), a 2024 acrylic-on-canvas portrait of Cruz.
The exhibition draws on personal details from Cruz’s life and her influence as an artist and cultural figure, offering an artistic interpretation of her career and legacy.
Lucrecia and the Celia Cruz All Stars Band will then take the stage for a performance celebrating Cruz’s music, personality and signature “Azúcar!” — the exclamation that became synonymous with the singer.
Cruz, who died in 2003 at age 77, remains one of the most influential figures in Latin music. Her career spanned more than five decades and included international hits, numerous awards and collaborations that helped popularize Cuban music and salsa around the world.
