Miami shines in Wallethub’s 2023 best sports cities ranking

Miami now basks in the limelight as one of America’s premier sports cities. 

The latest study by Wallethub, a renowned financial advisory platform, has catapulted Miami to an impressive 6th place in its Best Sports Cities of 2023 list. 

This recognition places Miami in the esteemed company of cities like Los Angeles, Boston, Pittsburgh, New York, and Dallas.

Methodology: A comprehensive analysis

The study encompassed an analysis of 397 cities across the United States. 

The evaluation process involved a unique combination of results from previous rankings across the five major sports: football, basketball, baseball, soccer, and hockey. 

Each sport’s individual ranking was assessed and given a weight corresponding to its popularity, as indicated by the percentage of adults who follow the sport.

Scoring system: A balanced approach

To ensure fairness and accuracy, Wallethub employed a 100-point scale for grading each sport. 

This approach involved calculating a weighted average for each city across all categories, leading to the final overall score and ranking.

Miami’s diverse sports landscape

Miami’s performance in the individual sports categories highlighted the city's diverse sports culture. 

Here are the city’s rankings in the various sports:

  • Football: 7th
  • Basketball: 6th
  • Baseball: 26th
  • Soccer: 7th

As it relates to Hockey, the city was ranked  450th.
