Miami rises as top global relocation destination

Recent data released by Remitly reveals a surprising trend in global relocation preferences, placing Miami in a highly coveted position.

This analysis, which prioritizes the perspectives of a diverse range of countries, underscores the evolving patterns in international migration.

In an intriguing twist, Miami has emerged as the second most desirable city for relocation, surpassing both Paris and New York City.

This conclusion stems from Remitly’s analysis of Google search volumes for the phrase ‘move to ’ across 164 countries. By excluding searches from local regions, Remitly’s findings offer an accurate representation of global preferences.

Dubai leads, but Miami shines

While Dubai tops the list, attracting the interest of 60 countries including powerhouses like the U.S., Canada, and the U.K., Miami’s popularity is noteworthy.

The Sunshine State’s city has captured the imagination of residents from diverse countries such as Greece, Haiti, Afghanistan, and Chile.

Diverse  countries eyeing Miami

A detailed look at the data reveals that Miami’s allure spans continents. Countries like Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, and others in Central Asia, along with nations from South America and the Caribbean, are increasingly interested in moving to Miami.  Miami was the most popular searched city in these countries.

International migration on the rise

This shift in relocation preferences is set against the backdrop of a significant increase in international migration over the last three decades.

According to Remitly, an estimated 281 million people were living outside their country of birth by 2020.

This figure represents a significant jump from 1990, accounting for 3.6 per cent of the global population and highlighting a trend that continues to reshape the dynamics of global mobility.
