Miami officer faces DUI charges after being found passed out in car

A Miami police officer was arrested for reportedly driving while under the influence.

According to reports, authorities said that Officer Joevanih Sauvagere, 31, was found passed out in a car with a gun on his lap.

He was arrested on Tuesday morning on one count of DUI, an arrest report said.

Discovery of Sauvagere

Reports are that a Miami-Dade Schools officer was alerted about a silver vehicle in the vicinity of Northwest 6th Avenue and 62nd Street. 

The officer later found Sauvagere passed out inside the car with a gun on his lap.

An overpowering scent of intoxication

Reports are that as the authorities approached the vehicle, there was a strong scent of alcohol. 

An officer reported that Sauvagere had bloodshot, watery eyes and his eyelids were droopy.

His arrest 

Sauvagere reportedly struggled to place the vehicle in park after being instructed to. 

Reports are that he initially refused to undergo a field sobriety test.

Sauvagere was pulled out of the vehicle and taken into custody.

He was taken to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center and his bond was set at $1,000.
