The City of Miami Gardens has officially declared January 26 as Minnie Lee Anderson Day in recognition of a beloved community figure who celebrated her 101st birthday recently.
Haitian-American Councilwoman Linda Julien presented the proclamation during a special ceremony at Greater New Bethel Baptist Church, honoring Anderson’s lifetime of faith, service, and resilience.
Born on January 29, 1924, in Calhoun Falls, South Carolina, Mrs. Anderson has spent more than a century as a pillar of her community, dedicating her life to family, education, and church leadership.
“Mrs. Anderson’s life is a shining example of dedication, love, and perseverance,” said Councilwoman Julien. “Declaring Minnie Lee Anderson Day is a small token of appreciation for all she has contributed to her family, faith, and community. Her legacy is an inspiration to us all.”
A proud daughter of Haitian immigrants, Councilwoman Linda Julien was elected to the Miami Gardens City Council in 2020 and currently serves as a citywide representative for Seat 5. She visited Mrs. Anderson earlier this week alongside Councilwoman Katrina Baskin, who was elected to Seat 1 in 2024.
Mrs. Anderson, a longtime educator and church leader, has impacted generations through Sunday school teachings, mentorship, and fundraising efforts for education. Now a resident of Miami Gardens, she remains active in faith-based and community initiatives.
To honor her milestone, family, friends, and community members gathered on January 28, for a surprise caravan parade in celebration of her extraordinary life.
