A Miami-Dade woman has been arrested for stealing over $55,000 dollars from Courtesy Property Management Inc.
The Miami-Dade Police Department's Organized Crime Bureau, Economic Crimes Section, along with the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office says Ivonne Marina Leon was employed at the institution as an administrative assistant. Miss Leon was responsible for collecting payments on behalf of the Victim (Royal Palm Place Association). The board president conducted a financial audit and discovered that numerous payments had not been deposited into the association’s financial institutions.
The board president obtained several copies of deposited money orders, and cashier’s checks that had been given to Miss Leon. These money orders and cashier’s checks were made payable to the association, however, they were altered and made payable to Cash or to Miss Leon, totaling over $55,000 dollars.
Detectives have reason to believe that there are more people who may have been victimized by Miss Ivonne Marina Leon and are urged them to call MDPD immediately.
“Every employee theft violates the trust of an employer. When the alleged theft impacts a condominium association, it creates numerous layers of mistrust, anger and frustration disrupting the sense of community sought by so many condo residents,” said State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle. “I commend the investigative efforts of the Miami-Dade Police Department in uncovering these thefts and locating the individual believed responsible.”
