Miami-Dade County Kicks Off National Domestic Violence Awareness Month on Oct. 2

The Miami-Dade County Domestic Violence Oversight Board (DVOB) and the Miami-Dade County Community Action and Human Services Department’s (CAHSD) Violence Prevention and Intervention Division will host a kickoff event in observance of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 2, in the lobby of the Stephen P. Clark Center, 111 NW 1st Street, Miami, FL 33128.
The ceremony is part of a month-long initiative aimed at raising awareness about domestic and intimate partner violence prevention. It also highlights the local resources and support available for those affected in our communities. An average of 24 people per minute are victims of rape, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner in the United States — more than 12 million women and men over the course of a single year. As part of the awareness initiative, buildings throughout the county will be illuminated in purple to show solidarity. The county is encouraging persons who work in a building that can be illuminated, to contact Griselle Marino at 305-297-3139 or griselle.marino@miamidade.gov.
