Melissa Johnson shines as Charlton Athletic secures victory over Watford in Women’s Championship

Jamaica's Melissa Johnson showcased her talent with a goal and an assist as Charlton Athletic secured a comfortable win over Watford in the Women's Championship.

In Sunday's match at Vicarage Road, the 32-year-old striker opened the scoring for Charlton in the 56th minute before providing the assist for Melisa Filis's injury-time goal.

This victory marks Charlton's second consecutive win following their 3-1 triumph over Birmingham two weeks ago. The team currently sits in third place in the Championship standings with 39 points, just three points behind leaders Crystal Palace.

Some important saves

The match saw defender Rebecca McKenna making crucial defensive plays for Charlton, while captain Kiera Skeels had a chance to extend the lead with a header from a Filis corner.

Despite early pressure from Watford, Charlton's goalkeeper Jessica Gray kept the visitors in the game with some important saves, including one from Michelle Agyemang's shot.

Johnson broke the deadlock early in the second half by capitalizing on a mistake by Watford's goalkeeper to slot the ball into an empty net. Although she had a goal ruled out for offside later in the match, Johnson redeemed herself by setting up Filis for Charlton's second goal in injury time.

Overall, Johnson's stellar performance played a crucial role in Charlton's victory, demonstrating her importance to the team's success in the Women's Championship.
