KINGSTON, Jamaica — In a powerful reaffirmation of its commitment to the development of Jamaican sport, Marathon Insurance Brokers (MIB) has renewed its longstanding partnership with the Jamaica Olympic Association (JOA) through a bold $15-million sponsorship package.

This renewed alliance, announced yesterday at the JOA’s Cunningham Avenue headquarters, reinforces MIB’s role not only as a financier but as a visionary force shaping the well-being of athletes and the sport ecosystem.

The expansive deal includes $10 million in direct funding, $5 million in travel insurance coverage for the Jamaican Olympic team, complimentary one-year insurance for medalists, and a new insurance program targeting JOA staff, affiliate associations, and their employees.

“Not just a contract — A mission”

Keisha-Ann Burgher, MIB’s Executive Vice President of Corporate and Regulatory Affairs, delivered a message that resonated deeply with the sporting community. “Today isn’t just about renewing a contract. It’s about reaffirming our mission,” she declared. “We know our athletes deserve more than applause – they deserve protection, peace of mind, and a true partnership that reflects the grit and excellence they bring to the track, field, court, or pool.”

Burgher underscored the holistic nature of MIB’s support. Far from focusing solely on marquee sports, MIB has extended coverage to athletes in disciplines such as beach volleyball and skateboarding, exemplifying their belief in nurturing Jamaica’s full athletic spectrum. “It’s not just about the high-profile events. It’s about the full spectrum of Jamaican talent. This package is not only encouragement – it’s a gesture of respect.”

Honoring the “backbone of sport”

One of the most notable elements of the renewed package is the comprehensive insurance program designed specifically for the JOA’s administrative and support staff. Burgher referred to these individuals as “the backbone of sport – the people behind the podium.” It’s a move that recognizes the invisible labor powering Jamaica’s athletic excellence and reinforces MIB’s commitment to equity within the sports industry.

Stewardship and legacy

JOA President Christopher Samuda hailed the sponsorship as a milestone in meaningful corporate partnership. “Together, we are co-creators, contributors, and custodians of sport in Jamaica,” he said. “This is a partnership that’s building a legacy – not only for this generation but for those that follow.”

Samuda’s words framed the announcement as more than transactional—it is a collaborative investment in national pride, resilience, and sporting excellence.

Fueling dreams, from grassroots to greatness

Also in attendance was Tricia Robinson, President of Netball Jamaica, who expressed heartfelt appreciation for MIB’s enduring support. “From elite leagues to grassroots tournaments, Marathon has been vital to our growth,” she noted. “Their support doesn’t just fund activities – it fuels dreams. And many of our athletes proudly choose Marathon for their personal insurance needs.”

Robinson’s remarks illuminated the personal trust and institutional loyalty Marathon has built within Jamaica’s sporting circles over decades.

A movement rooted in partnership

As Jamaica prepares for the upcoming Olympic Games and beyond, MIB’s renewed investment signals a powerful vote of confidence in the nation's athletic potential. More than just dollars and cents, this partnership reflects a deeper belief: that Jamaican athletes, administrators, and associations deserve a foundation as strong as their ambition.
