One man is currently in police custody following a bomb threat at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) on Sunday that disrupted operations at one of the terminals.

Deputies and the Bomb Squad from the Broward Sheriff's Office were on the scene sometime after 5 p.m. on Sunday to evacuate the upper level of the airport’s Terminal 1. Travelers were advised to stay away from the area due to a "security-related incident."

A man was detained for questioning at 50 Terminal Drive, according to BSO.

The evacuation led to gridlock outside the airport. Cameras showed bumper-to-bumper traffic at the entrance to FLL and on eastbound Interstate 595.

Deputies cleared the area at about 8:30 p.m. after a bomb threat turned out to be a false alarm.

A final travel advisory last night posted by FLL on the social media platform X read: "Law enforcement has cleared the security incident in Terminal 1 and all airport roadway and terminal operations are returning to normal. We appreciate your patience during this incident."
