A minor earthquake rattled several sections of eastern Jamaica on Wednesday afternoon, the second such tremor to affect the island in less than two weeks.

According to the Earthquake Unit at the University of the West Indies, Mona, the magnitude 3.6 quake occurred at 4:15 p.m., with its epicentre located southwest of Buff Bay in Portland at a focal depth of 16 kilometres.

Residents in multiple parishes reported feeling the shaking, and the Earthquake Unit has so far confirmed tremor activity in St Andrew, St Mary, and St Catherine.

This latest event follows a magnitude 3.1 earthquake that struck near Golden Spring in St Andrew on June 28 at 12:23 a.m. That earlier quake, recorded at a depth of 9 kilometres, was also felt in sections of St Andrew.

There have been no reports of injuries or damage linked to either event.
