Romelu Lukaku had barely stepped onto the field before Belgium’s fortunes changed.

The striker’s introduction transformed the match instantly, helping the Red Devils recover from a deficit and secure a 1-1 draw against Egypt in a dramatic World Cup encounter on Monday.

Belgium trailed after Emam Ashour’s first-half strike, but Lukaku’s presence created the pressure that eventually produced the equalizer just 23 seconds after he entered the match as a substitute.

The result extended Belgium’s search for a World Cup victory, while Egypt continued their frustrating wait for a first-ever tournament win.

Egypt capitalizes on Belgian defensive mistake

Egypt entered the match determined to challenge a Belgian side searching for redemption after failing to progress beyond the group stage at the 2022 World Cup.

Their breakthrough arrived in the 19th minute.

Midfielder Emam Ashour, making his 30th international appearance, seized on a defensive breakdown and calmly finished to give Egypt the lead.

It was only the second time Egypt had ever taken the lead in a World Cup match.

For a team appearing at the tournament for the fourth time, it was another reminder of their ability to compete, even as they continued chasing that elusive first victory.

Belgium struggles as Egypt threatens

The Red Devils found themselves under pressure after conceding, and Egypt created several opportunities to extend their advantage.

The African side had chances to put the match beyond Belgium’s reach but failed to find the finishing touch.

Belgium, meanwhile, struggled to generate consistent attacking rhythm despite the presence of world-class talent.

Kevin De Bruyne came close, while Belgium continued searching for an opening that would bring them back into the contest.

Lukaku provides immediate spark

The turning point arrived in the second half.

With Belgium trailing 1-0, coach’s decision to introduce Lukaku in the 66th minute immediately changed the attacking dynamic.

The striker sprinted through the center as Belgium pushed forward, moving toward a dangerous cross from the right.

Before Lukaku could make contact, Egypt defender Mohamed Hany intervened,  but only by turning the ball into his own net.

Belgium had their equalizer.

The goal came almost immediately after Lukaku’s arrival and completely shifted the momentum.

Missed chances leave both teams searching

After the equalizer, both sides had opportunities to claim all three points.

Lukaku and De Bruyne continued to threaten, but Belgium could not find the winning goal.

Egypt also remained dangerous, yet their inability to capitalize on their earlier chances ultimately cost them a historic victory.

The final whistle confirmed a share of the points.

A draw filled with different emotions

For Belgium, the result prevented another World Cup setback but continued a difficult tournament run, with the team now winless in its last three World Cup matches.

For Egypt, the performance showed progress but added another chapter to their long wait for a World Cup victory.

The Pharaohs proved they could challenge one of Europe’s strongest teams.

Belgium discovered that sometimes one player and one moment can completely change a match.
