Lima wins bid to host 2027 Pan American Games, beating out Asuncion

On March 12, Panam Sports announced that Lima will host the Pan American Games in 2027, following a vote that rejected the bid from Asuncion, the capital of Paraguay.

This decision comes after both cities presented their bids last month, prompted by the removal of hosting rights from Barranquilla, Colombia, due to contractual issues.

Lima, the Peruvian capital, secured the opportunity to host the Pan American Games for the second time, having previously hosted the event in 2019. The city received 28 out of 52 votes in favor of its bid.

Transparency of the selection process

Neven Ilic, President of Panam Sports, praised the transparency of the selection process and the healthy competition between the two nations. He congratulated Renzo Manyari, President of the Peruvian Olympic Committee, for the achievement.

Ilic highlighted Peru's successful hosting of the 2019 Pan American Games, emphasizing the country's enthusiasm and the improved infrastructure for the upcoming event.

The most recent edition of the Pan American Games took place last year in Santiago, Chile. PanAm Sports, representing the 41 National Olympic Committees of the American continent, oversees the organization of the event.
