The free, public event runs from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Inverrary Community Center, 3300 Inverrary Blvd., and promises “big vibes, island flavor, and nonstop entertainment,” according to organizers.
Attendees can expect a live performance by soca artist Shelly Sweetshells, appearances by Mayor Denise D. Grant and Consul General Bruce Lai, and music by DJ 3rd Degree and FyahHeart Entertainment. Cultural offerings will include steelpan, tassa drumming, and dance performances by Jaya Devi Arts, Miss Miami Broward Pageant contestants, Karnival Bounce, and others.
Food will be a major draw, with authentic Trinidadian dishes served by popular vendors such as Joy’s Roti Delight, Tabanka, Singh’s Roti Delight, King’s Chicken, and more.
Trinidad and Tobago gained independence from Britain on Aug. 31, 1962, marking the start of its journey as a sovereign nation. Known for its rich cultural heritage, the islands have since become global ambassadors of Caribbean music, cuisine, and Carnival traditions, blending African, Indian, European, and Indigenous influences into a vibrant national identity.
Organizers say the family-friendly celebration aims to bring the Lauderhill community together to honor Trinidad and Tobago’s culture and independence in grand style.
