On Friday, March 9, 2018, the City of Lauderdale Lakes served as the host site for the 8th Annual Women Mean Business Conference in recognition of National Women’s History Month.  Corporate leaders from Broward and Dade County gathered to celebrate the hard work of women-owned businesses that play a prominent role in creating jobs and stimulating the nation’s economy.  The theme of the conference was “Your Power Unleashed.”

City of Lauderdale Lakes Mayor Hazelle Rogers welcomed everyone to the City’s Educational and Cultural Center, an entrepreneurial hub that provides resources to assist in unleashing and elevating the prowess of prospective and existing entrepreneurs.

The Minority Business Development Agency Export Center organized the conference in conjunction with representatives from the City of Lauderdale Lakes, U.S. Small Business Administration, Jamaica USA Chamber of Commerce, Women’s Business Development Council, FSB Agency, Inc., National Association of Caribbean Business Women, Janette L. David, CPA, South Caribbean News, Miami-Dade County Aviation Department and IMR Development Corp.  A plethora of information was presented on available financing particularly for early stage businesses, mentoring/protégé services, securing contracts, exporting goods and disaster assistance.

While the conference is held once a year, it is expected that the women in attendance will continue to identify opportunities, pursue business ventures and stay connected with other corporate representatives.  The City of Lauderdale Lakes will also continue to promote initiatives that strengthen local businesses and create access to pertinent resources.
