Kieran Powell stars as Hurricanes take control against Trinidad and Tobago Red Force

In the West Indies Championship, Leeward Islands Hurricanes delivered a commanding performance against Trinidad and Tobago Red Force on the opening day of the third round of matches on Wednesday.

Test batsman Kieran Powell showcased his prowess with an unbeaten half-century, steering the Hurricanes to a dominant position. Responding to Red Force's meager first innings total of 137, the home side confidently reached 105 for one at the close of play at Warner Park in Basseterre.

Powell's elegant knock of 54 not out, supported by Mikyle Louis's 32, set the tone for the Hurricanes. Colin Archibald and Jeremiah Louis spearheaded the bowling attack for the Hurricanes, each claiming three wickets to dismantle the Red Force innings.

Harpy Eagles suffer a collapse

Meanwhile, at Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua, West Indies Academy displayed a strong bowling performance to restrict Guyana Harpy Eagles to 175 in their first innings. Despite a promising start, the Harpy Eagles suffered a collapse, with Joshua James and Kevin Sinclair wreaking havoc with the ball.

However, Harpy Eagles fought back with Sinclair's four-wicket haul, putting the Academy in a precarious position at 42 for four. Yet, resilient batting from Rashawn Worrell and Joshua Bishop salvaged the innings, guiding the Academy to 96 for four at the close of play.

Across another venue at Chedwin Park in St. Catherine, Combined Campuses and Colleges Marooners lead Windward Islands Volcanoes by 204 runs on first innings.
