In a strategic move, the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) has reassigned Coach John Wall from his position as head coach of Jamaica’s Under-20 team to concentrate on assisting the senior team, led by Coach Heimir Hallgrimsson, in upcoming competitions such as the Nations League, Copa America championship, and 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Experienced coach Jerome Waite has been appointed to take over the reins of the U20 Reggae Boyz, gearing up for the CONCACAF championship/final round World Cup qualifiers in July.

Waite, renowned for his leadership at various levels including the Under-20, Under-23, and senior levels, expressed his excitement for the challenge ahead, aiming to guide Jamaica to its first Under-20 Men's World Cup since 2001.

Waite stated, "It's always a joy working with the national programme. It will be great going into the qualifiers with this group of players. Qualification will not be easy, but it is something that can be accomplished."

JFF's strategy to bolster support for the senior men’s team

Wall's recall from the U20 assignment aligns with the JFF's strategy to bolster support for the senior men’s team, particularly as they prepare for their Nations League semi-final fixture against the United States.

According to an official statement from the JFF, "The Jamaica Football Federation has decided to recall coach John Wall from duties with the under-20 team, so he can better concentrate on assisting Hallgrimsson in preparing the senior men's national team for the numerous competitions ahead."

The U20 Reggae Boyz, having topped Group F, are poised to face stiff competition in the Championship round, where they will contend with pre-seeded nations such as the United States, Honduras, Mexico, and others.

With Waite's extensive experience and dedication to national football, the JFF looks forward to a successful campaign under his leadership, while coach Wall continues his valuable contribution to the senior team's aspirations in various international competitions.
