An alleged assault case involving Exeter City footballer Jevani Brown, a 28-year-old former Jamaica youth international, was adjourned for a second time on Thursday.

Brown was listed to appear at Exeter Magistrates Court, but the case was adjourned without any evidence being heard, Devon Live reported.

The Exeter City forward did not appear, and he is yet to enter a plea to a charge of assaulting a woman.

Police were called to Queen Street in Exeter – the county town of Devon – in the early hours of Thursday, February 2, following reports of a female having been assaulted in the area.

Officers attended and an arrest was made.

Jevani Brown faces a single allegation that he assaulted a female by beating her at Musgrave Row.

He has been the top scorer for his club with 14 goals this term, but he has not featured for the mid-table League 1 outfit, nicknamed the Grecians, since legal proceedings began.

Magistrates adjourned the case to March 23, and Brown is currently on bail.

A statement previously released by Exeter City Football Club said: “Exeter City Football Club is aware of the charge made against Jevani Brown. As this is a legal matter, we are unable to make any comment until legal proceedings have been concluded. He will not be selected to play during this period.”

A statement released after his arrest by Devon and Cornwall Police said: ‘Police have since charged a man in connection to this matter. Jevani Jason Brown, aged 28, originally from Luton, but currently residing in Exeter, has been charged with assault by beating.”
