The Jamaica Basketball Association (JaBA) has announced the appointment of Wayne Dawkins, noted basketball coach with over 36 years’ experience and founder of P.H.A.S.E. 1 Academy, as the Technical Director for the Under-17 National Team program.  

With this new role, Dawkins will be instrumental in shaping the future of Jamaican basketball and nurturing young talents on the national stage. 

As the Technical Director, Dawkins will assume a range of crucial responsibilities aimed at strengthening the Under-17 National Team program. He will play a pivotal role in assisting in the recruitment of coaches, creating effective playing systems, and providing best practices for coaching development.  

In addition, he will contribute his expertise in scouting and talent identification to ensure the representation of the most promising athletes in the Under-17 National Boys’ program. 

One of Dawkins' initial assignments will be to prepare the boys for the upcoming 2023 Centrobasket U17 Championship in Belize. With his extensive experience and passion for the game, Dawkins is expected to bring forth remarkable leadership that will elevate the team's performance to new heights. 

Expressing his enthusiasm for his new role, Dawkins stated: "The level of talent we have in Jamaica, both locally and internationally, is more than enough to create an explosion of Jamaican basketball and establish our nation as a perennial global basketball power. I am excited to work with the young athletes and help them realize their full potential." 

Paulton Gordon, president of the Jamaica Basketball Association, commented on the appointment. "we are honored to welcome Wayne Dawkins to the Jamaica Basketball Association. Wayne's wealth of experience and dedication to the sport make him an invaluable addition to our team. With his leadership, we have great expectations for the success and growth of our U17 National Team program." 

Dawkins' responsibilities will extend beyond the U17 National Team program. He will also coordinate pre-competition training camps and organize coaches and players' development clinics and foster the overall advancement of basketball in Jamaica.  

Furthermore, Wayne will assist in the creation of coaching support resources, aimed at elevating the overall level of coaches involved in the U17 National Boys’ Program. 

The Jamaica Basketball Association is confident that Wayne Dawkins' appointment as the Technical Director will pave the way for a bright future for Jamaican basketball, inspiring young athletes and positioning Jamaica as a force to be reckoned with on the global basketball stage.
