Jamaica’s Protoje tops Billboard Reggae Chart

Jamaican reggae singer, Oje Ken Ollivierre, popularly known as Protoje, remains atop the Billboard Reggae chart this week after landing there last week.

Protoje remains at number one for this weekending July 14th with his fifth album, ‘A Matter of Time.’ The album includes a collaboration with Chronixx, titled, ‘Flames.’  It was released in May.

Protoje first gained notice for his 2005 mixtape Lyrical Overdose Volume 1, featuring mostly hip hop-influenced songs. His debut album, "The Seven Year Itch," was released in 2011. In 2011, he released another single off the album entitled "Rasta Love," featuring Ky-Mani Marley.

Protoje’s mother is Jamaican singer Lorna Bennett, best known for her 1972 rendition of ‘Breakfast in Bed,’ while his father is a former calypso king from the island nation of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
