Jamaicans and Cuban national arrested by ICE over criminal convictions

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has announced the arrests of two Jamaican nationals and a Cuban national as part of recent enforcement actions targeting immigrants with criminal convictions.
The arrests were announced in separate ICE releases in late June and July. ICE said the operations focused on individuals convicted of crimes including drug trafficking, assault, sexual offenses and other offenses.
On June 29, ICE announced a nationwide enforcement operation that included the arrest of Jamaican national Carl Winston Ellis, who the agency said was convicted of possession with intent to distribute drugs and illegal re-entry into the United States in Las Vegas, Nevada.
ICE also listed Cuban national Agustin Rodriguez among those arrested during the operation. According to the agency, Rodriguez was convicted of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine in Miami-Dade County, Florida.
“Over the weekend, while Americans attended the Great American State Fair and enjoyed their summer weekends, the men and women of ICE were hard at work arresting criminal illegal aliens convicted for homicide, child sexual abuse, assault, rape and drug trafficking,” Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis said.
The agency said the operation targeted individuals it described as “the worst of the worst,” including people convicted of homicide, sexual assault of children, aggravated assault, drug trafficking and other crimes.
On July 31, ICE announced the arrest of another Jamaican national, Bruce Blackstock, following his release from the Central Michigan Correctional Facility.
ICE said Blackstock entered the United States legally but later committed crimes that resulted in convictions for domestic violence, sexual assault and assault with a dangerous weapon. The agency said its Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Detroit office arrested him after his release from state custody.
ICE said the arrests were part of the Trump administration’s broader immigration enforcement efforts focused on arresting and removing immigrants with criminal records.
The agency did not provide additional details on the cases, including the dates of the convictions or whether any appeals remain pending.
