Following their historical advance to the women soccer World Cup, Jamaicans and the Jamaican government continue to bestow honor on the Reggae Girlz.

On Monday the Girlz were presented with the key to the city of Kingston at a special ceremony at Flag Circle in downtown Kingston. This follows similar presentation made by the City of Montego Bay.

According to a Jamaican Gleaner report,  Sport Minister Olivia Grange said she was pleased that mayors of other municipalities have also made requests to present the keys of their cities to the Jamaican women.

Jamaica Football Federation President Michael Ricketts was also pleased by the cities’ requests to honor the Girlz. He described their accomplishment as "no ordinary achievement ".

Ricketts told the Gleaner, . "There are 211 member nations in FIFA and 24 at the World Cup, Jamaica is one of them. CONCACAF has 45 member associations. Three have qualified, the United States that have spent US$250 million on their football program, and Canada. The Caribbean has 35 member countries and we are the only one to have qualified, so this is no ordinary achievement."

Mayor of Kingston Delroy Williams, whose municipality conferred the key yesterday, praised the Jamaican team for making such rapid progress in a sport that just started in recent history.
