Jamaican jockey Andrew Ramgeet logs feature win in US meet

PHOENIX, Arizona, Apr 2, – Veteran Jamaican jockey Andrew Ramgeet maintain his place in the top-10 jockeys at Arizona’s Turf Paradise winter meeting with a victory in the feature race on Monday.

Ramgeet is now one of three riders tied for fifth on 39 wins for the season at one of Arizona’s leading race tracks, where Francisco Arrieta leads the jockeys’ colony with 180 wins.

Ramgeet brought back 5-2 favorite Fortified Effort from a 1,300-metre trip on the dirt in the US $19,000 second race in a time of one minute, 15.34 seconds.

He raced Fortified Effort close to the pace before angling the four-year-old, dark bay gelding out on the turn, rallying four across and assuming command, drawing clear and held safely under steady urging to finish 1 ¾ lengths clear.
