Jamaican government bolsters cybersecurity measures
In a bid to fortify Jamaica’s digital infrastructure and combat the rising tide of cybercrime, National Security Minister Dr. Horace Chang highlighted the government’s proactive efforts during the Global Services Association of Jamaica (GSAJ) President’s Breakfast Forum in Montego Bay.

Pointing to the appointment of Senator Dana Morris Dixon as Minister without Portfolio in the Office of the Prime Minister for Skills and Digital Transformation, Dr. Chang underscored her role in guiding cybersecurity development.
Leveraging her expertise, Senator Morris Dixon is steering efforts to ensure the nation possesses the necessary skills and adaptability to navigate the digital landscape.

Dr. Chang highlighted the significance of the Data Protection Act, enacted in 2020 and enforced since December 1, 2023. This legislation provides a crucial framework for handling personal information, compelling companies to recalibrate their data management practices to meet compliance standards.

The government’s commitment to cybersecurity extends beyond legislation, with investments being made in law enforcement agencies for research, innovation, and specialized training.
