Jamaica has emerged triumphant at the Caribbean Week of Agriculture 2023 in the Bahamas after Diandra Rowe, the dynamic force behind Abbey Garden Farm in Manchester, central Jamaica, has clinched the “Young Farmer of the Year” accolade. In the same vein, seasoned entrepreneur Peter McConnell from Trade Winds Citrus Ltd emerged as the “Farmer of the Year”.

The Caribbean agricultural week is set to end on Friday, October 13.

Agriculture on the rise: Jamaica at the helm

Jamaica’s Agriculture Minister, Floyd Green, present in Nassau for the event, lauded both Rowe and McConnell for their exemplary contributions.

He emphasized that their efforts have not only placed Jamaica on a pedestal but have also illuminated a path for the broader Caribbean realm.

Jamaica’s double win, according to Green, speaks volumes about the unwavering dedication and fervor that permeates the nation’s agricultural sector.

Beyond traditional farming: Jamaica’s agricultural evolution

Minister Green underscored the ongoing transformation within Jamaica’s agricultural framework.

Far from being confined to traditional methods, Jamaica’s agricultural vision hinges on innovation, resilience, and long-term sustainability.

He further noted that champions like Rowe and McConnell are at the forefront of this evolution, ensuring Jamaica’s stature as a premier agricultural beacon.

Caribbean Week of Agriculture: A symphony of excellence

Beyond mere celebration, the Caribbean Week of Agriculture stands as a testament to the region’s diverse agricultural prowess.

It is an avenue for regional partnership, knowledge dissemination, and saluting the relentless efforts of Caribbean farmers.
