The Consulate-General of Jamaica in Miami has offered their condolences to the victims of the condo collapse in Surfside, Miami last week.
The Champlain Towers South residential building partially collapsed on Thursday.
The Miami-Dade Police Department says scores of people have died and search-and-rescue teams are now trying to find hundreds of survivors.
Authorities report that the cause of the collapse is still not yet known and that the victims came from all around the world. No Jamaicans were among those impacted by the collapse of the building.
“We offer condolences to all those impacted at Surfside. The prayers of Consul General, Oliver-Mair and the staff of the Jamaica Consulate General, Miami are with those affected by the tragedy in the city of Surfside. It is difficult to understand tragedies like this, but we offer our prayers and support to those impacted during these times,” a message on their Facebook page states.
The Consulate-General of Jamaica, Miami said persons who are seeking information should call 305-614-1819 or go to Miamidade.gov/emergency to report missing persons or check someone in as safe.
The family reunification Centre is located at 9301 Collins Avenue, Surfside.
According to the Associated Press, the death toll from the collapse of a Florida beachfront condo building has risen to nine as search-and-rescue efforts continue.
Surfside Mayor Charles Burkett sought to assure families Sunday that rescuers were working nonstop. “Nothing else on our mind, with the only objective of pulling their family members out of that rubble,” he told ABC’s “This Week.”
“We’re not going to stop doing that -- not today, not tomorrow, not the next day. We’re going to keep going until everybody’s out.”
While officials said no cause for the collapse early Thursday has been determined, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said a “definitive answer” was needed in a timely manner.
