Jamaica U-19s roar into contention after dismantling Trinidad & Tobago by 106 runs

Jamaica's Under-19 cricketers delivered a resounding statement at the Cricket West Indies Rising Stars Championship on Wednesday, producing an outstanding all-round display to crush previously unbeaten Trinidad & Tobago by 106 runs at Liberta Sports Club.

The emphatic victory, Jamaica's second in succession, showcased the team's resilience with the bat and ruthlessness with the ball, while handing the Red Force their first defeat of the tournament.

After recovering from a top-order collapse to post a competitive 225 for eight, Jamaica unleashed a relentless bowling attack that bundled Trinidad & Tobago out for just 119 in 35.3 overs.

Lower order engineers impressive recovery

Sent in to bat on a surface that initially favored the seamers, Jamaica's innings was in serious trouble during the opening half.

The Trinidad & Tobago pace attack, spearheaded by left-arm seamer Daniel Holder (3-52) and Darron Dhanraj (2-37), reduced the Jamaicans to a precarious 76 for five in the 21st over.

Captain Pajay Nelson offered early resistance with a composed 25, while Ryan Littleton contributed an important 41, but the innings appeared destined for a modest total as wickets continued to fall.

That outlook changed dramatically thanks to an outstanding lower-order partnership.

Adrian Silvera anchored the recovery with an unbeaten 52, displaying remarkable composure and maturity beyond his years. His innings came from 69 deliveries and featured four boundaries and a towering six as he expertly balanced caution with calculated aggression.

At the other end, number 10 batter Perico Henry injected valuable late momentum.

Henry struck an unbeaten 24 from only 25 balls, smashing two fours and a six as the pair capitalized during the closing overs to transform Jamaica's position.

Their unbroken stand carried the total to a highly competitive 225 for eight from the allotted 50 overs, leaving Trinidad & Tobago with a far more demanding chase than had once appeared likely.

Off-spinner Brendan Bodoo worked tirelessly for the Red Force and claimed 2-43, but he and his teammates were unable to halt Jamaica's late surge.

Fast bowlers blow away T&T

If Jamaica's batting recovery shifted the momentum, its bowling attack seized complete control.

Trinidad & Tobago never settled at the crease, losing wickets consistently as Jamaica's seamers applied relentless pressure from the outset.

Only captain Brendan Bodoo mounted meaningful resistance, compiling a determined 54 while watching partners depart at regular intervals.

The Jamaican attack, however, never loosened its grip.

Jahdae Moore led the charge with a devastating spell, claiming 3-10 from just 4.3 overs as he ripped through the middle and lower order.

Henry completed an outstanding all-round performance by following his late hitting with figures of 3-27, while Nicoli McKenzie added further pressure with an economical 2-29.

Together, the trio dismantled the previously unbeaten Red Force, dismissing them for 119 to seal a commanding victory.

Momentum builds ahead of Windwards clash

The convincing triumph has firmly established Jamaica among the tournament's early contenders as they prepare to chase a third consecutive victory against the Windward Islands on Saturday at Bethesda Sports Ground.

Leewards and Barbados also record big wins

Elsewhere in the competition, the Leeward Islands produced the day's biggest winning margin, defeating the Windward Islands by 144 runs at Bethesda Sports Ground.

After posting a challenging 269 for nine, the Leewards bowled out the Windwards for 125. Tanez Francis led the batting effort with 79, J'Quan Athanaze struck a run-a-ball 55, and Lawshorn Bergan added 47 from 60 deliveries.

Barbados also maintained its impressive start to the tournament, defeating Guyana by 63 runs.

The Barbadians compiled 258 all out before restricting Guyana to 195 in 44.1 overs to continue their dominant run in the championship.
